| Not only Medan, Indonesia had the largest Esperanto speaker in the past |
The silly prime minister of Malaysia, Sabri Ismail cracked up a big joke on language issue to divert his poor political rating in Malaysia.
He suggested to use Bahasa Melayu, the national language as the ASEAN second language. Currently, ASEAN is using English as the common language in the association which was formed more than 40 years ago.
The minister of education of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim rejected the proposal and wanted to make Bahasa Indonesia as the ASEAN common language.
Both Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia has about 20% of difference in vocabulary and some could be a misunderstanding danger if express wrongly.
In fact, ASEAN should use Esperanto as the common language for the reasons below:
1. it saves cost for learning. One can acquire Esperanto in 6 months.
2, it has no synonym and thus would not cause misuderstanding.
3. it can eradicate the illiteracy in the region of ASEAN as there are millions of people can not command English well though English is taught in schools like in Indonesia and perhaps not more than 10% of the Indonesians can command well of English, only the rich and elites can have that privileges. Those in the rural areas especially have less education opportunity cannot command English at all.
4. save up millions of dollars for teaching English in the schools. Of course, the pupils can go on to learn English or other languages if they like.
5. Esperanto can help the autism grade 2 people, dyslexia people too. More researches should be conducted.

The France 24 channel reported Esperanto years ago but in ASEAN rarely radio or TV report about Esperanto.
Why Esperanto ?
UNESCO has recommended to all member countries in 1954 to teach Esperanto as the second language to save cost of learning a foreign language.
Again in 1985 UNESCO passed a resolution urging all NGOs to use Esperanto as the common language. You can download the resolution from the UNESCO official website searching the word, Esperanto.
Communication is the main problem when one is travelling. UNWTO has passed a declaration in 1980 called Manila Declaration, urging the tourism industries to use Esperanto to avoid misunderstanding during the travelling.
Of course, if you had travelled wide and long time, you would face communication problem with the local. Only you were not really travel but touring with bus and tourist guides and you faced nothing. Of course, you location would be the tourist sites and hotels. The big shopping malls are the target for most tourists but not travellers.
How easy you can command Esperanto ? There are almost complete materials for the ASEAN countries only Myanmar language is not ready. You can try in 12 days for the basic course. If you could not control it in 12 days, add another 12 days, not even a month, you can control the language and meet many Esperanto speakers in the world via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok etc. Don't forget the YouTube.
