Malaysia : Are the people know about highly processed foods?

The government does care, as long as the people do not make noise.

It is partly also the people in Malaysia are too obsessed with the electronic devices and pay no attention to the development of the country. They are too little to know about the highly processed food around it,

On the other hand, the medical professionals are silent about it. Look at the information of Ministry of Health  https://www.moh.gov.my/  They do not have the information on food and care.

The subsidies from Kerajaan MADANI seems good but the food is tight with the manufacturers. Just few washing items are suitable, the others are in the category of altr processed food.

The AI said about it.

Highly processed foods (or ultra-processed foods, UPFs) are industrial formulations, like sodas, chips, sugary cereals, packaged meats (hot dogs), and frozen dinners, made with added sugars, fats, salt, and additives (preservatives, flavors, colors) that are cheap, convenient, and long-lasting, but linked to higher risks of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and anxiety. They often contain ingredients not found in home kitchens, undergoing extensive processing like extrusion, molding, and chemical alterations, making them taste hyper-palatable but nutritionally poor.
Characteristics of UPFs
  • Industrial Ingredients:
Contain hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors/colors, emulsifiers, preservatives, sweeteners.
  • Extensive Processing:
Techniques like pre-frying, extrusion, fractioning, and chemical alteration.
  • High in Unhealthy Components:
Often high in sugar, salt, unhealthy fats, and calories, while low in fiber.
  • Convenient & Palatable:
Designed to be tasty, affordable, and have long shelf lives.
Common Examples
  • Drinks: Soda, energy drinks, sweetened juices, flavored milk.
  • Snacks: Chips, cookies, candies, pastries, crackers, instant noodles.
  • Breakfasts: Sugary cereals, flavored oatmeal, frozen waffles, toaster pastries.
  • Meals: Frozen pizzas, ready-to-eat meals, instant soups, burgers, fries.
  • Meats: Hot dogs, sausages, chicken nuggets, deli meats, fish sticks.
  • Dairy/Alternatives: Processed cheese, flavored yogurts, ice cream.
Health Implications
What to Do Instead
Focus on unprocessed foods (fruits, veggies, whole grains) and minimally processed items (plain yogurt, whole wheat bread). When choosing packaged items, check the label for long ingredient lists with chemical-sounding names and aim for options with fewer additives, fewer sugars, and less sodium.

Taxpayers money is being used to fund the medical fees but prevention is better than cure is not in the agenda of MOH.
