Public Libray is badly funcitoned

It is disheartening to read time and over again that Malaysia is not a reading society. Certainly it is a big chanllenge for all Malaysians to think why.

Just as this blog goes, how many Malaysians care to read. Ceratianly, they come to this blog, the hit recorded higher when the youtube programmes are uploaded.

Now, can reading be replaced by watching or listening ? With the development of the society and technology; 3 G in Malaysia, time is so much limited and the information is so abundance till one may not know what to do and will just give up for reading .

Reading habits are cultivated when one is young. Soon, this one will be distracted by the CD, VCD and DVD. Look at the closure of many cinemas, it is nothing new if one finds that Malaysia is not a reading society.

The 24 hours of Tv channels airing by the government stations or the paid stations are taken up lots of space for the reading. Certainly, we can do away the family get together time. By the end of the say, only the tired body is dragged back to the home.

Library is the most important place for all. It may the Malaysians or the tourists, local or foreign, they can get some information and read some books or newspapers to catch up with the development. But alas, the libraries, public ones, mostly are closed on Sundays.

However, the private libraries are serving the communities much better than the government ones. We paid the tax and we got nothing good service back.

Well, if the government privatise the public libraries and i think the reading habits will be improve as they ( the management staff ) know well that they need the money to pay the staff and at the same time, they need to make profit to stay alive.

But, this is not a good idea that the poor people will be robbed off the pleasure of reading. But the government can consider to implement a new system of which the staff salary will be based on the readership in the library. If they fail to encourage the local people to come to library to read and borrow the books, then their salary will be remained unchange.

Many kakitangan kerajaan ( public servants) are too long in the enjoyment of the unchallengable conditions and this have made them lazy to think to improve the productivity.

Who needs more reading ? It is certain that the remote area people as they have more time. Those in the cities read because of the pressures from the work or studies. If given a choice. It is the same as the remote area residents.

One may have heard that less readerships in the remote areas thus they close on Sundays. Would this be the best reason ? As the mentioned management style drill in , the library staff may like to open 24 hours. If you don't believe, try it out.
