Smoking ban not effective

In fact, i am going to touch on this topic and the Penang assembly is smoke-free in the Star Online captured my attention and prompted me to write in the earliest possible so that the Pakatan in Penang can take the next action which can benefit more people.

The anti-smoking and has been lauched for a long time and even the quitting smoking cash rewards are also given out to the those so called who have 'quitted' and returned to cash another rewards.

The simple rule can apply by the state government that:

If a company employs non-smoker, the company will enjoy a few % tax redemption.

I am very certain that the company which likes to have the tax cut will not employ the smokers and the people who wanted to get a job, especially the high school boys and girls know that the smoking habit will put them out of job. The parents will also take more serious action so that the children will not be jobless.

Keep enlarging the smoking zone will not be that effective as the employers can help to play a good part of anti-smoking work.

Looking at the United Kingdom, the medical fees are so high that the government is now overloading with the problem, health care.

Before the Malaysian hospital face the same problem, the local government, especailly the Pakatan lead states can implementing it.

Certainly, the follow up check in the company from time to time is vital. Penalty should be imposed if the company makes the false claim.

Take the bull by the horn. Tackle from the main cause. The government of Pakatan should put an additional clause that if the government servant has the smoking habit will not be employed.

Many readers should know that Korean universities have implemented the rules that if the applicant is a smoker, he/she will not be accepted into the universities no matter how bright the applicant.

Penang assembly is smoke-free
GEORGE TOWN: Penang has declared the State Assembly building a smoke-free zone in a move to discourage the smoking habit among elected representatives and the public.
“Smoking is the first step toward drugs and glue-sniffing and with Penang recording 6,119 drug addicts last year, which is the highest in the country, we need to make a strong stand,” state Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said yesterday.
Strong stand: Phee (left) and Speaker Abdul Halim Hussain gesturing at a no-smoking sign at the Penang state assembly yesterday.
He said the people should respect the Federal Government’s decision to gazette all government offices, including hospitals, police stations and fire departments, as smoke-free zones.
“Smokers who need to light up can smoke outside the gate but those who discard cigarette butts on the pavement can be fined RM500 for littering,” he added.
Penang is believed to be the first to declare a State Assembly building a no-smoking zone without a designated smoking area.
Enforcement officers from the Penang Municipal Council and the state Health Department will conduct checks not only in the hall but the whole compound of the State Assembly building and those caught smoking will be given summonses of up to RM500.
Earlier this month, Phee announced more enforcement against smokers in public places, especially civil servants in government departments and agencies.
State Assembly Speaker Abdul Halim Hussain, who was also present at the press conference, announced that the next Penang state legislative assembly sitting has been scheduled from April 20 to April 28.
“On the agenda will be the debate on the state Public Accounts Committee findings on the cancellation of the Kings of Tennis event as well as the Penang Municipal Council’s financial statements,” Abdul Halim said.
He added that three administrative enactments would also be tabled along with two amendments.
