University chancellorship in Malaysia

The Univeristy of Selangor is in the light of public again.

It is because of the Chancellor.

Well, it is all the time sickening that the important of part of our country progress, that is, education is being handled by the politicians or their clans.

Many times have been said that the Minister of Education should not be a politician but someone is able to do the job, to upgrade the education system in the country.

Education is constantly in the change and all the changes need preparation.

But alas, in Malaysia, it is the funny scenario a Prime Minister must be a minister of education before he can be the PM, look at the history of it.

Therefore how can we have the top 100 ranking in the world.

The recent student council election of the local universities said it all.

The comment in malaysiakini.com should be considered.

Malaysian: Isn't the chancellor's position in Malaysian universities largely ceremonial, similar to the English system which we inherited? Most of the day-to-day administration of the university is performed by the vice-chancellor.

Not renewing her contract is nothing to crow about. Maybe a wiser course of action this time would be to appoint someone neutral to the position rather than one with affiliation to any political party.
