The email have a glaring subject: I am leaving Malaysia.
Huh, nothing surprised, many talented Malaysians are leaving the country. But this one is a little different.
She is leaving Malaysia for a course of Esperanto in Europe.
Ya, the other days discussion via email was about setting up a school in Esperanto in Malaysia.
Huh, very ambitious lady.
Just a language school ? Nothing great, I reply.
It should be a school of trade or university which conducts all courses in Esperanto, I suggested to her.
Now, I think it would be a good idea for the Penang government especially the PDC to formulate this idea into action. Other Pakatan state also can consider it too. The state government cannot do much. Schools and university are still under the Federal government. However, with state development board, I think they can start something new and this will bring the country into the new dimension.
Since many claimed that Esperanto is a language easy to learn. Those teenagers would fail the Malay and English should have the chance to do a course of technical and even commerce or trade, management in Esperanto. I only can get one source of university is Saint Marino which conducts limited courses in Esperanto for the Masters and PH D programmes.
By setting up technical and trade courses, Penang can also attract the students from the neighboring country like Thailand and Indonesia. Mind you, Esperanto is already 100 years history in Indonesia.
When the Pakatan sails into the Putrajaya, perhaps, can consider to conduct various courses in Esperanto language, this would attract more students from other parts of the world.
The students without Esperanto basic can learn it within 6 months.
Malaysia will be a popular choice for many bright students who cannot control English well enough to do the course, foreign exchange will flow in and the reputation of Malaysia, first Penang lah, will be known throughout the world.
But this is just a dream I told my friend. Do you think the PDC will listen to what the suggestion be?
LGE is English 'geng geng' (very powerful) Australia graduate with the father who is fully English educated, they won't take a look at the language which has been announced by UNESCO as IAL in the 50s. Some said it was announced in 1926. I did not know.
“But for me, it is viable. Penang people are always very creative and open to suggestion but the LGE is not the Penang product wor.”
“Then propose to Kedah,” I told her.
'I will buy more lottery, she said.
Can the dream of hers be translated into reality for the people of Penang and the government of Pakatan? The more important is the working force of Malaysia.
