Do you find strange scenario in Malaysia pertaining to swimming pools ?
The government builds the swimming pools but the government staff cannot manage the swimming pools well. The government decided to contract the swimming to the private companies. The very reason to contract the management of swimming pool to private companies is the pool is making a lost in the revenue.
It looks obviously a valid reason, isn't it? But if you questioned more, you would find it was not the valid reason. It is the inability of the administration staff in the government.
One person who was quick to response was it was for the crony. Yes, the corruption culture is too long in Malaysia. But think over it, the Penang state has been a Pakatan Harapan manage state, which meant, there should be no corruption.
There are many swimming pools in Penang state, but mainly for the rich. Will come back to this topic later. If you had more information, you could leave it in the comment section.
At the moment of writing, there is only one government manage swimming pool in function, that is the in Jalan Betek.
For years, the administration never do research to promote the use of the swimming pool. The opening hours are still the same for decades.
Come on, it is internet age now, just let your fingers doing the walking, you can find much information locally and internationally.

There are 3 sessions in a day for all walks of life.
8 am- 11 am
1pm- 4pm
5pm -8 pm
Why the swimming pool in Jalan Betek could not attract the users? Here you could see a change in mind, you could have more users and future swimmers for SEA games etc.
The swimming pool in Jalan Betak has many schools near by. From Bukit Mertajam to Taman Permai. If the schools formed the swimming clubs, there would be more users for the pupils. You do not have to ask for hotel to let you use the swimming, during the PH time, the education minister Dr Mazlee did a stupid request.
Why the resources are there and you are not using it just because you dislike swimming?
The second session, that is from 1pm to 4 pm, just good for the pupils to come for activity. They can learn and practise after school. But the administrator of the swimming pool just let the opportunity go by and the lose of producing more swimmers for Penang state.
Swimming is the best exercise as you can search in YouTube to see the reason.
Are the staff in MBSP going to think about it for a change?
Repeat again here for the 3 sessions:
8 am -11 am ( good for the senior citizens, others are in offices or schools)
1 pm- 4 pm (good for pupils in the morning session, the workers on shift, 3pm to have a dip for exercise before going to work. Others could come in too)
5 pm - 8 pm ( it would be good for all ages)
The reason that most people responded to verbal survey a friend did was 1 pm session is too hot, for Malaysia weather, no one would come, and this would probably the reason of the administrators in the office thinking too as they are afraid of hot sun. But have you tried the session before?
Now, do it and you can see the swimmers would not care for the hot sun in the 1 pm.
In fact, the Penang state can build more half Olympic size pool without paying a sen, Read the ways below.
