For Minister of Education in Malaysia 2023 ,Teachers Training College Admission System

This is the internet age.

Post Covid, many educators should know there is another way of teaching, via the distance learning.

Now what we concern more is the system of teacher training college admission. This should be changed.

Currently, the teacher training college is different from the education faculty, the teacher training college trainees are bound by contract but graduates of education faculty in the local university are not bound by the contract.

Teacher University is also called Normal University in different countries. Here is the information of Teacher University in Thailand, Rajabhat University.

Most countries in the world, the teacher training universities do not have contract with the students, that forced them to stay with the teaching in schools.

One very important part is the students in the teacher training universities have to pay the tuition fees. They are not bound by the contracts to be in teaching line. After graduation, they could leave for other jobs if they could find it.

By doing so, the government will save more money by providing the allowance to the students. However, can have some tuition fees from the students.

The old concept from the colonial days that teacher training college should have contracts with the students. But it is not in the internet age.

Though closing down the teacher training colleges in Malaysia within a few years is not possible, the education ministry can change the system that the teacher training college can combine with the nearest university and provide the education faculty.  It is a 1st degree course.

We will come back on the system of training teachers in the next article.

By doing the combination, the government would have less expenditure and do not get someone who has changed the mind to teach in the schools.

We need teachers who really like teaching as a career but not as a monthly salary staff.

Of course, the ministry of education should also consider graduates of education from other countries.  The kopitiam story, few graduates from Deakin University, Australia could not join the teaching jobs in the schools because Education Degree is not recognised by the Public Service Department. This is how Malaysia loses the talents.

As we have said, the pension scheme should be abolished, all government staff are paid EPF, thus all staff can come in and go out.
