Penang LRT, wisdom or doom Part 2

Now you should have good idea, LRT can not help Penang Island, not Penang state, to reduce the traffic jam.

The main point boils down to the fact, it is the planning department in the ministry of transport as well as Penang Development department did not do good research on the world transport system. They were merely picking up on the experience travelling the LRT and MRT in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

It looks good to have MRT or LRT at the beginning, however, the maintenance later would be a high cost problem. If you were living in Penang Island, you would find that many residents are lazy to walk a few meters. This LRT construction would have good response at the beginning and later would die down because passenger must drive to a LRT station and park the car, walk up the station.

The problem here is how long they, the passengers, can walk up and down the station just to travel the few stations?

It is still time that the ministry of transport and the Penang planning department taking into the considerations to use Bus Rapid Transit.

Next, Penang Island has lots of hilly and uneven geographical structure. The 29 km with 27 stations, on average it is about 1 km one station.

In part one we have mentioned the walking 5000 steps health benefits, 1000 steps on average person, it is about one km.

Buying bus lane, this could let Penang government having some revenues, of course, the major bus company in Penang state is Rapid Penang, the company will have to pay for the lane booked.

The bus company can gain back the bus lane payment with more passengers. Can you imagine, the bus No 301 from Jetty to Relau, has 50 stops, of course, there is not really passengers on the 50 stops, if they could rearrange the bus route to 25 stops, this would cut down the time of travelling.

This comes back to the laziness of the passengers who do not want to walk a few hundred meters to get the bus instead waiting for the bus pass their front doors.

Do not spoil the environment just for the sake of political reasons, in the end , the people will suffer more and the country too.
